The Knicks finish the Celtics and face Pacer in the ECF
The New York Knicks were able to pass the Celtics and now face Pacer for a shot to reach the NBA Finals.

NEW YORK – Celtic star Jalen Brown said he felt like “death” after losing to the Knicks.
But outside Madison Square Garden on Friday night, none of the harsh Grim Reapers were found anywhere. Thousands of fans weren’t born when the adult Knicks last played in the conference final. And many fans who enjoyed adult snacks have taken down Avenue on 7th Avenue in a scene where New Yorkers hope to roll up the Larry O’Brien Trophy next month.
“Fu Boston!”, the world’s most famous arena, has become a party scene of royal blue, orange and white chunks, unlike anything the city has seen in the last 30 years.
The light poles on the outside of the MSG did not match the Rowdy fans, but inside the building the atmosphere was more subdued.
“The goal is to always win the championship. We have eight wins. We need 16,” New York Knicks manager Tom Thibodeau said minutes after his team achieved the biggest victory in a quarter-century.
Josh Hart, who played a triple double with 10 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists for the Knicks on Friday, said it would be difficult to see the game five tapes.
“We watched the movie and it was disgusting,” Hart said. He wears his left eye, which is semi-closed after taking his elbow in Game 5. “It would be a tough opponent.
The Knicks did what they couldn’t do in Boston on Wednesday, closing the world champion Celtics in six games and made a big first half lead and exciting defensive effort to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals with the Indiana Pacers. Game 1 of that Best Seven Series begins on Wednesday night (8 ET, TNT) in New York.
But it’s not something that the team’s longtime fans and players don’t take for granted, including playing the 2-0 series leading over Indiana in last year’s semi-final round, especially considering past playoff performances. The Knicks’ biggest victory margin in a postseason game, the Celtics’ 119-81 loss on Friday night, did nothing but bringing back memories. Still, as Patrick Ewing was roaming the tunnel near 33rd Avenue in Manhattan, it boosted confidence that he hadn’t seen.
The Knicks need everything the fans have and have to pass the Hot Pacers team that handled the top seeded Cleveland Cavaliers in five games with ease. Certainly, the Cavaliers suffered several injuries and three starters missed one game of the series.
All five Knicks starters scored in double figures on Friday, with four scores over 20 points, led by Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby.
The key to the next series is Anunoby, the team’s highest-paid player after signing a five-year, $212.5 million contract last summer. He scored a total of 13 points in four-quarters of shooting from the field in two losses in the conference finals, but had a hit or miss in the ninth year small forward, who scored 29, 20 and 23 points with three wins.
“From start to finish, it was great,” Thibodeau said of Game 6. “We knew we had to play 48 minutes against them.
Thibodeau knew Indiana was waiting, and no matter how happy he was, he quickly put this victory into bed.
“The game has to win different ways. All games are different. There really is no carryover from one game to the next. You have to prepare for the next series,” Thibodeau said.
The problems Boston brought with its championship pedigree and prolific shooting could possibly present the Pacers with more challenges.
“They’re a great basketball team and you see their guards play and they can push you and break you off the dribble. We know what the challenge is,” Thibodeau said.
The Knicks have a long playoff history with Pacer, winning two of three regular season games and dating back to the first round of the 1993 Eastern Conference.
Over the next two weeks, phrases like “25 points, 4 quarters,” “8 points, 9 seconds,” and “Spike Ree Sit” are undoubtedly reminiscent of memories for Stokeknix fans to erase, but they can also push teams that have not won the NBA championship since 1973.
