The lawyer for Sean “Diddy” Combs is honing his turbulent relationship with Cathy Ventura after tragic testimony about alleged abuse of the hip-hop mogul.
Cross-examination at Combs’ Sweeping Federal Sexual Crime Trials, which resumed May 16th in a Manhattan courthouse. The Combs legal team grilled the Casandra “Cassie” Ventura.
Combs fined Ventura in the mid-2000s, and the relationship lasted for 10 years. When Ventura was fined 19 and Combs was 36, the two became professionally and sexually involved.
A daily sexual performance in which federal prosecutors accused of orchestrating Combs despite being forced by her, despite her being forced to attend a drug-fueled “freak-off” party – on May 15, a Combs lawyer painted a picture of Cassie controlling her situation.
The defense showed early emails and text messages of Comb and Ventura Fine’s relationship, where they publicly declared their love for each other, and she attracted more attention from him.
Combs, 55, was arrested in September 2024 on charges of sex trafficking, assault and transporting to engage in prostitution. He pleads not guilty to all charges.

Cathy reveals Diddy overdose in 2012
During cross-examination, Combs’ lawyer Anna Estevao revealed that she had overdose of painkillers in February 2012.
Estebao asks Ventura if she remembers the overdose, and the woman sets the incident at the same time that pop icon Whitney Houston died (singer died February 11, 2012).
Fine of Ventura recalls that they had a “freak-off” that night and went to a sex club in San Bernardino, California, and Combs later held a party at the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles, but she went home. She later testified that combs had overdose with painkillers and she took him to the hospital.
Cathy expressed concern to Diddy about “freak-off”
In a text from December 2009, Ventura Fine told Combs that she needs to feel “this is my husband and the only person who looks at me this side” in order for her to “make me more open about what I do in bed.”
She went on to write that she is allegedly “freak off,” adding that she is beginning to feel “a little dirty” and “in my mind” about whether she wants to do it.
Ventura Fine explained in the stand that “freak-off” became a “very integral part” early in their relationship, but she explained that she wanted to develop more relationships. A lawyer for Combs claimed that this showed her that she felt comfortable putting deep thoughts into “freak-off” and expressing her concerns to her then-partner. “At that time,” she revealed.
The lawyer read sexually explicit messages between Cathy and Diddy
Diddy’s lawyers read texts between former couples early in the relationship, including a very explicit message in court. In a message from August 2009, the couple discussed plans for a “freak-off.”
Combs wrote, “When do you want to be surprised?” Ventura’s fine responds with “I’m always ready to surprise you. LOLOL.” He wrote, “You can tell me the day, you’ll choose.”
In more texts from 2009, the courts saw sexually explicit messages between them. In one message, Ventura Fine enthusiastically stated that she would have sex, and the comb replied, “I can’t wait to see you. I really want to get hot.” On another occasion, she texted Combs about what she expected to be positioned during sex.
Diddy’s lawyer focused on the jealous angle
The defense repeatedly sought to finely paint Ventura as a deep, jealous ex-partner. “This is about the nature of relationships,” Attorney Mark Agnifilo said before she stood up. “This is about jealousy.”
The defense said Combs needed someone to take care of him, and Ventura Fine was one of the only people who saw him “real” him. “You knew how special you were to him,” the defense said. Ventura Fine replied, “Sometimes.”
Combs’ lawyers said he lied and successfully cheated Ventura, disappointing her, but she said she “has returned to him for 11 years.” She paused before replied, “I wouldn’t use ‘I’m back’.”
Ventura Fine said she was in love with Combs, a “charismatic, big personality that everyone really loved,” and sometimes described as “sweet” and “compassionate.”
Cathy says she was jealous of Combs’ former partner Kim Porter
Combs’ lawyers asked Ventura about Kim Porter, Combs’ on-off partner, from the 1990s to the 2000s. “Are you jealous of Mr. Porter?” asked Anna Estevao, a lawyer at Combs. Kathy replied in the stands, “I had jealousy.”
Porter is a late model who died of pneumonia in 2018 and is the mother of four of Combs’ seven children.
Ju’s judge saw a series of texts from Cathy in 2013. She said she was worried that she would look like a “side piece” rather than a Combs partner. She was angry at the messages sent around the holidays, looking at porters and combs with the kids, not invited to family vacations or gatherings.
Cathy reveals Diddy doubts Michael B. Jordan’s relationship
Ventura Fine touched on her connection to actor Michael B. Jordan, where Combs’ lawyers scrutinized Kathy’s other relationships.
Ventura Fine said Combs suspects he has a relationship with the Emmy-nominated actor after the pair broke up in 2015, according to Fox News. At the time of their split, the singer-actress was filming a film in South Africa (Kathy starred in the musical drama “Honey 3: Dare To Dance.”

Combs faces federal sex crimes and human trafficking charges in a vast lawsuit that erodes his status as a power player and kingmaker in the entertainment industry.
