Towards the end of the first episode of “The Secret Life of a Mormon Wife” Season 2, Jen Affleck and her husband Zack go on a journey. Specifically, it’s a ketamine therapy trip.
“Ketamine therapy is supposed to reset many of the past traumas and habits you’ve created,” Jen says, nodding to her disrupted relationship with ZAC. “Ketamine is in the grey area when it comes to churches.” The pair wore large headphones and an eye mask. But what exactly is ketamine? How does ketamine therapy work?
What is ketamine?
Neurotransmitters are part of our brain’s communication signals. One of these neurotransmitters is called glutamic acid. Glutamate helps neurons fire “GO” signals. However, glutamic acid cannot function without unlocking what is known as the NDMA receptor. Think of this as a mechanism to change traffic lights from red to green. This process is essential for learning and memory, and being conscious and conscious.

Dr. Shannon Eaton, a neuroscientist and assistant professor of psychology at Arizona State University, previously told USA Today: Ketamine says, “Don’t stop that signal,” and it can silence it. ”
Is ketamine legal?
Ketamine is a legal drug used for many medical purposes. Dr. Ryan Marino, a medical toxicologist, emergency medical doctor and associate professor at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, told USA Today that ketamine was previously considered a general anesthetic but can be used medically. “Ketamine has been developed primarily for anesthesia for surgical procedures and is still used for its indications today. It is also used as a general sedative. It is therefore also used in people who are on ventilators, or in other types of serious illnesses that require continuous medication for comfort and sedation.”
He added that it is also used in the emergency department for several minor procedures, such as reducing fractures and dislocations.
Does Ketamine need supervision?
Ketamine is also used in recreational purposes and is not legal without a prescription from a healthcare provider. There are serious risks associated with taking ketamine without supervision.
Ketamine is a powerful tool for the medical professional belt for the treatment of pain and requires the safe use of physician-level expertise. Doctors can weigh the risk factors that may use ketamine as unsafe, such as heart and mental illness. In any setting, ketamine use requires supervision in case of emergency.
