WASHINGTON – As he asks questions about the issue that earned him support and sought opponents, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told Wisconsin Democrat Mark Pokan during a hearing before a House committee member that he believes Americans should not receive medical advice from him.

Pokan asked Kennedy, “If I had a child today, would you vaccinate the child for measles?”
“Perhaps because of measles,” Kennedy said. “What I say is that my opinion on vaccines is irrelevant.”
“I don’t want to look evasive, but I don’t think people should take medical advice from me,” he added, repeating his stance when Pokan was pushed further.
For years, Kennedy has questioned the effectiveness of the vaccine, promoting exposed claims that certain vaccines are associated with autism.
Last month, Kennedy argued that the measles vaccine is “lifting easily” because its effectiveness declines over time.
“It’s like your jurisdiction because the CDC gives advice,” Pokan replied. Kennedy said, “What we’re trying to do is to accurately lay out the risks and benefits when we understand the pros and cons and the other.”
Kennedy said again that he didn’t want to give advice when he pushed whether or not to vaccinate his child for Chicken Pox and polio.
Kennedy made the headline last December when it was reported that one of his allies, Aaron Ciri, filed a petition in 2022, on behalf of a group of activists asking the Food and Drug Administration to suspend or withdraw approvals for polio vaccines for children. Kennedy told the senators when he was “everything” about the polio vaccine.
What the secretary might do and what he did in his personal life may be different. When asked at a confirmation hearing on January 29 before the Senate Finance Committee on vaccinations for children, he replied openly, “All of my children are being vaccinated.”
