The Michigan man had an unforgettable reaction to winning the $5.5 million lottery award.
According to a news release, the 43-year-old winner, who remained anonymous, purchased Loto 47 tickets from a Speedway gas station in Kalamazoo. He told state lottery officials, “I told them I would play games from time to time and decided to buy some tickets on a whim.”
But he ended up winning. “When I saw the jackpot exceeding $5 million, I told my family.
Van Buren County’s resident Loto 47 tickets matched the figures in the drawings for April 23: 13-25-30-35-38-46.
The man “runned through the door and down the street.”
The man said it was “very surreal” to know he hit the jackpot and he checked his numbers multiple times to make sure he checked them.
“I was so excited that I ran through the door and down the street when I was sure I really had won the jackpot!” he told the lottery official.
He chose to receive the prize money as an annual payment of an estimated $182,000 over 30 years. Another option was a lump sum of $3.7 million.
The winner will use the new property on his wife and children.
Michigan lottery commissioner Susanna Schkreli said in a news release that gas stations on which tickets are purchased will “receive a $5,000 bonus fee to sell victory tickets.”
