There are no Triple Crown winners at this year’s horse racing.
Sovereignty, a three-year-old thoroughbred who won the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, won’t race in Preakness Stakes, the second race of the three races that make up the Triple Crown.
“Microjers, executive vice president of 1/ST, which operates Preakness, said in a statement Tuesday.
“We will expand our celebrations to our sovereignty connections and respect their decisions.”
The Preakness Stakes is scheduled to take place on May 17th at the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland.
Sovereign won the 151st Derby run and finished ahead of 18 horses on a muddy track at Churchill Downs Racecourse in Louisville, Kentucky.
On Sunday, Mott said that sovereignty had rubbed onto the pasttern on the front right, but it was on top of the hooves, but not serious. Mott said it was likely that he cut off the heels along with another horse as he left the gate.
“We want to do what’s best for horses,” Mott told a reporter on Sunday. “Usually, of course, you’re always thinking about the triple crown. That’s not something we don’t think about.”
The final winner of the Triple Crown was justification for 2018.
