Defense Second Pete Hegses has announced plans to cut 20% of active senior generals and admirals.
WASHINGTON – Defense Secretary Pete Hegses has announced plans to continue purge the military’s brass under President Donald Trump, cutting 20% of the military’s most positive generals and admirals.
The move to eliminate senior executive positions, written in the May 5 memo, is necessary to “foster excellent senior leaders who promote innovation and operational excellence without being interrupted by unnecessary bureaucratic groups that hinder growth and effectiveness.”
Hegseth called for a 20% minimum cut for active Pentagon four-star generals and admirals. The four-star officer holds the top post of the military, including the chairman and vice-chairman and vice-chairman’s chief of staff and armed services.
The active duty unit of the army, which is approximately 1.3mm, includes 37 four-star generals and admirals.
Hegseth has been swinging x to the top since his confirmation. He and Trump have already fired General CQ Brown, the oldest officer in the military. There was also Respondent Lisa Francetti, who led the Navy.

Trump is famously clashed on his side in his first term with General Mark Millie, former chairman of the co-chief of staff. The violation began after Millie admitted to appearing in Trump and uniform in the summer of 2020.
Hegseth’s memo also calls for a 20% reduction in the number of National Guard generals.
