Why is the chance of winning a Powerball so high?
Why do odds stack up against you? You need to guess a wide range of combinations of numbers printed on six rubber balls about 2 inches in diameter. According to Lotterylab.com, each of these balls costs around $60.
The five balls are white and carry the main numbers, while the sixth known as the bonus ball is red. To win a jackpot, all five white balls must be matched in any order.
When you play Powerball, you will select five numbers from 1 to 69 per whiteball. Next, select the numbers 1-26 for the Single Red Powerball. You can choose your own number or have your lottery terminal randomly choose it.
This leaves you with 292,201,338 numerical selections in a single Powerball game.
Even if you don’t win a jackpot, be sure to check that ticket carefully. The prize money is awarded for matching a portion of the number of wins in the Red Powerball or White Ball.
