The “Doomsday Clock” is slowly approaching

Bad news for humanity. We are closer to Armageddon than ever before. The Doomsday Clock, updated annually by the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, currently stands at 85 seconds until midnight. This is four seconds closer than last year and the closest to midnight since its introduction in 1947. The newsletter cites a “lack of leadership” around the world regarding dangers such as nuclear weapons, climate change, “destructive technologies” such as artificial intelligence, and the rise of “nationalist dictatorships,” as well as “threats.” A multiplier of disinformation and conspiracies.” Scientists say change is possible, but “time is running out.”

U.S. Mint releases new coins to commemorate 250th anniversary

A new coin from the U.S. Mint has been released to commemorate the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Are Trump coins in the bank?

If political and legal wrangling can be overcome, a Donald Trump coin could emerge. The Treasury Department is preparing to print the president’s face on the $1 coin to commemorate the nation’s 250th anniversary, but Democrats in Congress are questioning whether it is legal to depict a living president on the coin and are calling for the coin to be reinstated as a symbol of the civil rights movement. The Trump-appointed art commission, which reviews these issues, considered three classic designs and voted for the profile. One committee member pointed out, “Every single hair has the characteristics of a politician.”

Reserve a moon room

How many points would you be worth if you stayed in the first hotel on the moon? San Francisco-based startup GRU Space plans to open a lunar lodging facility by 2032, a tall order considering humans haven’t been to the moon in more than 50 years. The structure is inflatable and can accommodate four guests for several days. A second version will be built in later years using more permanent local materials. The company says it’s looking for “adventurers” and “people who can take their honeymoon to the next level” and who can pony up a $1 million deposit. What is the accommodation fee? Estimated $416,667 per night.

Paris Hilton says no to rejection

No one likes being rejected, but for Paris Hilton, it feels like physical pain. According to the Cleveland Clinic, this condition has a name: Rejection Dysphoric Disorder (RSD). Hilton, 44, said on the Jan. 26 podcast “The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Show” that when someone is rude to her, for example, she literally feels hurt and can feel “like the devil inside.” She links RSD to ADHD, a link confirmed in the clinic, and calls the latter her “superpower.” As for her pain, she says, “Now I know it’s not real. It’s like RSD has started.”

Hall of Fame Comment: Sorry, Bill Belichick.

The 2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame class will not include at least one notable figure. Bill Belichick, the architect of the New England Patriots dynasty and eight-time Super Bowl champion, failed to make the list in his first year of eligibility. Among those in the sports world who shared their shock at this disrespect were Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, Jimmie Johnson, Troy Aikman, J.J. Watt, LeBron James, President Donald Trump (who is not a sports figure), and, according to ESPN, Belichick himself asked his colleagues, “What’s a guy supposed to do?” − Compiled and written by Robert Abitbol
