Trump has eliminated Ukrainian US troops and opened air support options
White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt said President Trump has removed boots on Ukraine’s ground in order to maintain peace.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in a new interview that no meeting is currently planned between Russian leader Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian King Voldimi Zelenki as President Donald Trump is seeking peace talks.
“It wasn’t discussed in Anchorage. It was raised later. It’s like an improvisation that appears from a meeting in Washington between President Trump and his guests,” Lavroff mentioned NBC’s “Meet the Press” and his talk with Putin in Alaska and other European leaders in DC.
“Putin is ready to meet Zelensky when the agenda is ready for the summit, and this agenda is not ready at all,” Lavrov said.
Trump announced on August 18 that he had called Putin to urge him to meet with Zelensky in his latest effort to end hostility between the two fighting countries.
The call concluded a day filled with meetings between Trump, Zelensky and seven European leaders to bring peace between Russia and Ukraine. Describing the meeting as “very good,” Trump wrote in the true social post that he also wanted a trilateral meeting between him, Zelenki and Putin.
The then president said that security assurances for Ukraine by various European countries were discussed “with coordination with the United States.” He did not identify what would accompany adjustments.
But Lavrov, the top Russian diplomat, said in an interview on August 24, in which a group of countries, including the UN Security Council, should be guarantors of Ukraine’s security.
He told NBC News that Putin and Trump discussed the issue of Ukraine’s security guarantees and that Putin raised the issue of Istanbul’s failed debate in 2022.
In these discussions, Russia and Ukraine discussed the permanent neutrality of Ukraine in return for security guarantees from the UK, China, France, Russia and other countries, according to a copy of the draft agreement seen by Reuters in 2022.
Groups that could guarantee Ukraine’s security could include Germany, Turkey and other countries, Lavrov said.
“And the guarantor will ensure Ukraine’s safety, which must be neutral.
Lavrov also revealed that Ukrainian NATO membership is unacceptable for Russia, that Russia protected Ukrainian Russian speakers and that there was territorial debate with Ukraine.
