WASHINGTON – Vice President JD Vance said it was “too early” to consider the 2028 election as political observers speculate whether to start bidding for the White House.

The conversation comes after President Donald Trump suggested that Vance was the heir to the Magazine movement to reporters on August 5th. Trump does not formally support GOP successors, but he has admitted that Vance is “probably preferred at this point.” Trump also said Secretary of State Marco Rubio would “maybe be with JD in some way.”

Vance said he saw Rubio a month ago on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” but they both said they “laughed the whole thing.”

“Neither of us is focused on politics. We are actually focused on doing a good job for Americans,” Vance said.

“If we do a good job, number one, that’s a reward in its own right,” Vance added. “It all made a huge difference in our country’s life over the last six months and the next three and a half years. But if we do a good job, politics takes care of itself.”

Vance also said it was “too early to think about the political future.”

“Frankly, it’s too early to think about 2026,” he said. “It’s certainly too early to think about 2028.”

Rubio, who ran for president in 2016, told Fox News host Lara Trump in a July interview that he believes Vance will become a strong candidate for Republicans in 2028.

“I think he does an amazing job as a vice president. He is a close friend and I hope he is going to do that,” Rubio said.

Regarding his own political aspirations for the future, Rubio said, “I feel honest. You never know what the future holds.
