Most banks and post offices will be open on December 31st, but this is not the case on New Year’s Day, which is a federal holiday and will be broadly closed. Delivery services such as UPS and FedEx will also be largely unavailable on January 1st.
However, most grocery stores, retailers and restaurant chains will remain open on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day this year.

The new year is Thursday, January 1st.
Is the post office open on New Year’s Day? Will my mail be delivered?
U.S. Postal Service post offices will close on January 1 and no mail will be delivered on the same day, according to the USPS website. On January 1st, mail will no longer be accepted in the blue collection boxes.
The Postal Service will resume normal operations on Friday, January 2nd.
Are banks open on New Year’s Day?
New Year’s Day is a federal holiday, so most bank branches will be closed. We recommend double checking with your local bank branch for specific holiday hours.
Are delivery services like UPS and FedEx open on New Year’s Day?
UPS pickup and delivery services will not be available on New Year’s Day, and UPS Store locations may be closed, according to the company’s website. Please check with your local store for specific business hours.
