Alex Honnold’s planned climb to the top of Taipei 101, which was scheduled to be documented in a live Netflix event broadcast in the United States on Friday night, has been postponed due to weather, Netflix announced.
Climbing and broadcasting has been enhanced around the clock and is currently scheduled to begin on Saturday night, January 24th at 8pm ET. “Safety remains our top priority and we appreciate your understanding,” Netflix said in a statement.
Honnold, 40, made history in 2017 when he became the first person to “free solo” ascent of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. His quest and harrowing climb, made using only his arms, legs and hand choke, was chronicled in the 2018 film Free Solo.
Currently, he is trying to liberate Taipei 101 alone. Taipei 101 was once the tallest building in the world and still stands at 1,667 feet tall. After a 24-hour delay, his quest is scheduled to depart on Sunday in Taiwan (Saturday night in the United States).
