The Supreme Court demanded that same-sex marriage be overturned

The U.S. Supreme Court is officially asked to overturn a 2015 decision to grant equal marriage rights to LGBTQ+ couples.
Kim Davis, a former Kentucky County Clerk who refused to issue a marriage license, appealed on July 24th over compensation she was ordered to pay a gay couple who refused their license. She holds a conservative supermajority, Obergefellv. I asked him to overturn Hodges.
However, legal experts previously told USA Today it is unlikely that the court would overturn the ruling. President Joe Biden also protected his respect for marriage in 2022. It passes through Congress with bipartisan support and requires all states to allow same-sex and interracial marriage.
Where is Trump standing in same-sex marriage?
The White House was not overwhelmed by the possibility of a request for appeal or disenfranchising. But Trump has given him different stances on same-sex marriage.
Trump expressed his support for the domestic partnership in an interview he conducted with supporters in 2000, as reported by CBS News. The signal of support came when many of the GOPs did not share such a stance.
He then told Fox News in 2011 that he was not “in favor of gay marriages” and in 2015 he supported “traditional marriages.” However, a few days after being selected in a “60 Minute” interview in 2016, he said he was “great” in same-sex marriage. This is a far cry from the 2016 GOP platform that criticized the Supreme Court’s decision to recognize federal rights.
However, through his first term and reelection campaign, he appointed people with a history of advocacy against same-sex marriage, including Amy Coney Barrett of the Supreme Court, according to GLAAD.
During the 2024 presidential election, the GOP official platform removed explicit mentions of same-sex marriage, saying that “only Republicans will promote a culture where only Republicans place emphasis on the sacredness of marriage, childhood blessings, and the fundamental role of families and support working parents.”
When asked if NBC News was planning to roll back a same-sex marriage, next reporter Karoline Leavitt said, “That’s not a promise from the campaign he’s been making.”
Trump’s record on the second-year LGBTQ+ issue
Trump attacked the trans community at the heart of his second term. His executive order aims to ban transgender people from serving the military.
The Trump administration’s federal budget cuts brought professional services for LGBTQ+ youth with the closure of 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in July.
He also promised to find a way to make in vitro fertilization more accessible, but he has not yet announced plans.
Obergefellv. Appeal to Scotus for a long time following Hodges
The Supreme Court has already refused to appeal in Davis’ 2020 case.
After Obergefell’s ruling in 2015, Davis refused to issue a marriage license for same-sex couples as Kentucky county clerk. A evangelical Christian, she has performed a short mission in prison for court empt, claiming that issuing these licenses was inconsistent with her religious beliefs.
Davis Elmord and David Moore, a gay couple whose licenses were rejected by Davis, sued the case. In 2022, US District Judge David Banning ruled that Davis was unable to assert her own constitutional rights as a defense in violation of the rights of others when acting in official capacity as an elected official. She was ordered to pay the couple $100,000 in 2023.
