When Social Security turns 90, Congress faces a financial deadline
Social Security has a cash flow issue. For years, agents have paid more profits than they would take via payroll tax.

Those who have undergone supplemental security income checks will not receive a check in the calendar month of September, but not because of social security issues.
According to the Social Security Agency calendar, beneficiaries will actually receive their September SSI payments on Friday, August 29th.
SSI payments are usually issued on the first day of the month, but as in September (September 1 is Labor Day), payments will be issued earlier when the first day of the month lands on a weekend or holiday.
According to the SSA calendar, a similar situation occurred in June, with recipients of SSI being paid on May 1 and May 30, and again on November 31, with checks for that month being issued on October 31.

- Friday, August 29th, 2025 (checks for September 2025)
- Wednesday, October 1st, 2025 (checks for October 2025)
- Friday, October 31st, 2025 (checks for November 2025)

What is SSI?
Supplementary security income is a benefits program for those with limited income or resources, those over the age of 65, or those with blind or qualified disabilities. Qualified children with disabilities can also obtain an SSI. For information on how to apply for an SSI, please visit the SSA website.
Approximately 7.4 million Americans may be disabled or have limited resources to receive monthly SSI benefits. Approximately a third of these SSI recipients also benefit from Social Security.
Adults who earn more than $2,019 from their work each month are not usually eligible for an SSI.
