President Trump calls Iran war ‘a little trip’
President Donald Trump has brought up war with Iran as a “bit of a trip” during the Republican retreat.
- The Iran war that began on February 28 has left Iran’s supreme leader and more than 1,500 people dead in the Middle East.
- President Trump said the war would end “soon” but not within a week.
- Seven American soldiers died in this war.
President Donald Trump said the war in Iran will continue and that “we have not won enough.”
The United States and Israel attacked Iran on February 28, and have continued to do so for more than a week now. Meanwhile, Iran launched a counterattack against neighboring countries. President Trump and his administration have cited several reasons for why the United States got involved in the conflict, but even some members of Congress have questioned their purpose.
Within days of the attack, the United States announced that Iran’s longtime supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei had been killed along with other senior officials. The war also killed more than 1,500 people and seven U.S. soldiers across the Middle East.
AAA says Americans at home are feeling the effects of the war, with gas prices rising more than 40 cents a gallon last week.
How much longer will it last? Here’s what we know:
How long will the war in Iran last?
Pentagon Secretary Pete Hegseth said on March 10 that the war is not “endless” or “protracted.”
“Ultimately, the president can determine the end state of these goals,” he said. “I can’t decide if that’s the beginning, the middle, or the end.”
President Trump told reporters on March 9 that the war would end “soon,” but not within a week.
“We have already won on many fronts, but we have not won enough yet,” President Trump said at the Republican Congressional Issues Conference that afternoon.
President Trump previously said the campaign was expected to last four to five weeks. He also told the Times of Israel that the end of the war was a mutual decision with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“I think it’s a mutual idea…a little bit. We’re talking about it. We’ll make a decision at the appropriate time, but everything will be considered,” Trump said.
