What is SSI?
Americans with approximately 7.4 million Americans with disabilities or may have limited resources can earn monthly Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits.
SSI provides benefits to people with limited income or resources, those over the age of 65, or those with blind or qualified disabilities. According to the Social Security Administration website, eligible children with disabilities can also obtain an SSI.
Adults who earn more than $2,019 from their work each month are not usually eligible for an SSI. Approximately a third of these SSI recipients also benefit from Social Security.
Anyone who may be eligible for an SSI can call online, directly at your local Social Security Agency, or by calling 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) local time from 8am to 7pm local time during work week.
