The May 2025 full moon, also known as the “flower moon,” officially occurred on Monday, May 12th, giving skywatchers who are currently enjoying the mild conditions a chance to see the micromoon.
Micromones are slightly smaller than normal and look like dimmers. They occur when the full moon is the farthest from Earth known as the apogy, and coincides with the orbital point. As a result, the micromone is about 14% smaller than normal and 30% dimmer is displayed.
Still, from May 11th to Tuesday to Sunday nights, May 13th, the month of May appears full to our eyes.

According to Old Farmers Almanac, at 12:56pm on May 12, 2025, Full Flower Moon will reach peak lighting. The month also appears bright and full on Sundays (May 11th) and Tuesdays (May 13th).

Why is it called Flower Moon?
During spring, according to Almanac, the flowers begin to bloom throughout North America, stimulating the name of the May full moon.
The yearbook stated that the full moon’s name “is coming from many places, including Native Americans, colonial Americans and European sources.” The name “Flower Moon” comes from the people of Algonquin.
