Strawberry Moon will captivate Skywatchers on June 11th.

According to NASA, this year’s Strawberry Moon will be Micromoon. But because it’s early in the day, according to LivesCience, the best time to see the moon rises on June 10th at sunset.

If weather conditions are allowed, the moon is expected to be a gold shade rather than a vibrant shade of red like strawberry.

The spectacle marks the final full moon before the summer solstice. Furthermore, the moon is closest to the farthest point from the Earth, making it about 14% smaller and 30% dimmer.

Why is it called Strawberry Moon?

According to Almanac, the name “Strawberry Moon” comes from the Native American Argonchia tribe who lived in the northwest of the United States. The Ojibwe, Dakota and Lakota tribes also used their names, marking wild strawberries in June.

Where to watch Strawberry Moon

The June full moon will be the lowest in the sky this year due to its low arc. The moonlight reflects the Earth’s atmosphere and gives it a yellow or orange tint.

On June 11th, the full moon rises east just before sunset, making it the perfect time to see from North America. Check the moon events and moonset times in your location and choose a site where you can see the eastern horizon at a lower angle.

You can use Old Farmer’s Almanac’s online tools to determine the time for your local Moonrise and Moonset. Try searching for your city or postal code here.

June moon stages

According to the Moon and Planetary Research Institute, the Moon takes about 29.5 days to rotate around Earth. As the moon moves through different stages, several stages of partial light occur. These come from banana-shaped crescent moons, D-shaped quarterly moons, and almost entirely Gibbsmoons.

When will the Full Moon be in 2025?

Seven full moons remain this year. Three will be Super Moons.
