Alaska locals write for the Trump Putin Summit on Peace in Ukraine
Locals in Alaska are writing for the Trump Putin Summit as hopes and doubts arise in peace talks in Ukraine.
President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are scheduled to meet at the in-person summit on August 15th, with both leaders traveling to Anchorage, Alaska for a sit-in.
The two presidents are expected to discuss Russia’s war with Ukraine. This was launched more than three years ago with the country’s full-scale invasion, as Trump angled over three years ago for the peace deal. It’s a high stakes exercise for Trump as Ukrainian America’s solid support fires from some of his own party and European leaders claim that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is present in future talks, so he attempts a mediated role towards the conflict.
Here’s what you need to know about the much-anticipated diplomatic summit:
When and where will the meeting be?
The pair’s meeting is scheduled to begin at 11:30am (3:30pm ET) and a joint press conference is expected to continue.
The two world leaders meet at Elmendorf Richardson’s joint base in Anchorage, Alaska. The base hosts around 30,000 service members, their families and private employees, and is about 700 miles from the border with Russia.
Trump is scheduled to leave Washington, D.C. on early August 15th, flying in Air Force 1 for about six to seven hours before landing at Anchorage.
White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt, who appeared on Fox News’ Fox and Friends on August 14, said Trump’s meeting with Putin would be followed by a “bilateral lunch” between the two leaders and their respective delegations.
According to the National Archives, Putin will be Alaska as the first elected leader of Russia. If everything goes according to the plan, this trip marks Putin’s eighth visit to the United States during the presidency he has served for over 20 years in two separate terms since 1999.

What might be discussed?
Trump said there will be “very serious consequences” if Putin does not agree to end the Ukrainian war when he meets, and his summit with the Russian president will “set a table” for the Putin Zelensky meeting where he may be present.
In an August 14 interview with Brian Kilmeade, a conservative talk show host on Fox News Radio, Trump called the meeting a “chess game” and predicted that he could fail to advance peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.
Trump has raised the idea of a “land exchange” between Russia and Ukraine, claiming that the two countries must make concessions to each other to end the war. However, Zelenskyy firmly rejected the idea of giving away all the land to Russia. “Ukrainians don’t give their land to the occupyers,” Zelensky said in a video posted on X on August 9th.
