A new poll shows that President Donald Trump continues to lose support on immigration, his strongest point throughout his return to office.
A Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted February 13-16 found that only 38% of respondents approved of President Trump’s handling of immigration. That’s down from a high of 50% earlier in his term, Reuters reported. The poll was conducted among 1,117 American adults and had a margin of error of 3 percentage points. The immigration approval rate also fell from 39% since January, but the decline is within the margin of error.
Reuters reported that the decline in immigration approvals was disproportionately large among men. Nearly 50% of men approve of immigration in 2025, but the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll shows 41% of men have a positive opinion of President Trump on this issue.
Trump campaigned on a promise of mass deportations, and while his overall approval ratings remain historically low, his ratings on border security and immigration are typically higher than on other issues such as the economy. In a rare setback, the Trump administration recently announced it would scale back immigration enforcement operations in Minnesota after federal agents shot and killed two Americans.
Here’s what you need to know about how Americans are reacting to Trump overall.
