The 2026 midterm elections are just around the corner, and politicians on both sides of the election are looking for clues about which way voters are swinging.

First, the Democratic Party won an overwhelming victory in the state and local elections held on November 4th. And the race for the House district, a Republican stronghold in Tennessee, was surprisingly intense.

Republicans ultimately won the Dec. 2 special election, but President Donald Trump needed to be involved in the race to increase turnout.

Republicans may fear a blue wave in 2026, but this leads to another big clue: How do voters feel about the person at the helm of the party? Here’s what you need to know about President Trump’s approval ratings.

Gallup: Republicans dissatisfied with President Trump, approval rating at lowest in term

According to Gallup’s monthly poll (conducted from November 3rd to 25th), President Trump’s approval rating has fallen to 36% from 41% the previous month. The poll surveyed 1,321 adults and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points. This is the lowest approval rating for President Trump for a second term, according to the pollster, but it is statistically similar to his approval rating of 37% in July. His all-time low at the end of his term after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot was 34% in 2021, Gallup reported.

Among issues, Trump has the highest approval rating on crime, but the worst on health care, according to Gallup.

The Economist/YouGov: Seven consecutive weeks of net approval rating at least -15 points
