Do you remember the safety of your car? How to find out here, what should you know
When your car faces a recall, almost all repairs are free.
It is common knowledge that children in car seating are the safest in the rear center seat and should stay in the rear until age 13. But what happens if I drive a two-seat coupe without a back seat?
The type of car you drive, the safety features it has, and the age of the child plays a major factor if you can ride safely to the front. If you need to have children in this type of car, make sure you keep your state laws and vehicle owner manuals up to date.
What is the law for riding in the passenger seat?
According to Michigan editorial law, if your vehicle does not have a rear seat, it is appropriate to have your child in the front and rear seats. Ideally it is placed in the back seat of a two- or three-row vehicle, but there are still situations where it is safe to place it in the front seat. The 2020 Corvette Owner’s Manual states that children in rear-facing seats should not be seated in two-seater cars, as passenger airbags can cause serious injuries to children.
How do I install a car seat in the passenger seat?
Before you put your car seat in the two-seat coupe, first check the owner’s manual. The manual should allow you to find information on the right ways to set up your car seat and properly fit your car. I also recommend double checking and having a car seat in a two-door car in the first place. You can use a latch to set up the seat (underneath anchor and tether for children) and connect the base through the seat belt.
If you have a two-seat coupe that you drive every day, or if you drive on weekends, you can take your kids with you if you follow the correct rules. Please read the owner’s manual for additional information on whether the car seat can be fitted on the passenger side and how to install it. It is not ideal to place a rear-facing child in the front seat for passenger airbags, but you can still put them in even if the front is off. With proper and safe seating, you can take your child to any vehicle.
