See how Ole Miss fans reacted to Lane Kiffin leaving LSU
Lane Kiffin has been hired as the next head coach of the LSU Tigers after leading the Ole Miss Rebels to a historic 11-1 season, the first in program history.
Ole Miss did not throw Lane Kiffin’s clothes on the sidewalk after he decided to leave Oxford for Baton Rouge, according to a person with direct knowledge of the situation who spoke to USA TODAY Sports.
A rack of Kiffin’s clothes was found on the sidewalk outside the Ole Miss football facility on the morning of Monday, Dec. 1, before Kiffin left for LSU. A social media post with the caption, “Ole Miss even put Kiffin’s clothes on the street,” went viral.
“Our staff was cleaning his office,” Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter told Sam Hutchens of the Clarion Ledger. “That photo was taken. There was just a rack of clothes on the sidewalk outside his office waiting to be loaded into his car. We didn’t throw it off the sidewalk for him to come pick it up. We cleaned it up and put it in the car to take it to his house. I think that photo was taken a little out of context.”
Kiffin was introduced as LSU’s football coach on Monday, Dec. 1, ending one of the most successful records in Ole Miss history. Ole Miss, which just finished its first regular season with 11 wins, is expected to advance to the College Football Playoff and host a playoff game. Kiffin will not coach Ole Miss during the postseason.
