The State of the Union address will be held across the street from the National Mall, immediately after President Donald Trump’s first formal State of the Union address in his second term.
The event, sponsored by MeidasTouch, MoveOn Civic Action and other community organizing groups, begins at 8 p.m. ET and is aimed at countering this year’s major presidential addresses.
It will begin an hour before Trump is scheduled to speak, and will include at least 30 House members and senators who will skip the president’s address. The program includes victims of Jeffrey Epstein’s abuse, families affected by immigration crackdowns, laid-off public health workers, and Americans struggling with rising costs.
The event is one of two trying to get attention from Capitol Hill. “State of the Swamp,” headlined by actor Robert De Niro, will also take place at the same time as the speech.
