Walker Buhler, who has the Boston Red Sox signed to extend the rotation and offers the big game playoff heroes that marked his career, hopes the club was released on August 29th with the aim of re-adjusting the rotation of the stretch in the American League playoff chase.
The 31-year-old Buehler was signed to a one-year, $21.05 million contract, but never found a Red Sox footing pitching, completing five innings in nine of the 22 starts and giving up more than eight runs. Boston recently demoted Bouler to the bullpen, where he made a single appearance, and the club took the top of the AL wildcard rankings with the dominant trio of CY Young candidates Garrett Crochet, Brejanbelo and Lucas Giorito.
However, Swingman Richard Fitts was on the injured list and did not save a day without a break until September 4th. The club chose to release Buehler and promote Peyton Torre, the top pitching prospect that debuted at Fenway Park with Pittsburgh’s ace Paul Skens. The 22-year-old Tolle hit 13 batters per nine innings in three minor league stops in his first professional season. He was selected in the second round of the 2024 draft.
Buehler won his second World Series title with the Los Angeles Dodgers last season, starting Game 3 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium, returning two nights later to earn a save in Game 5 of the clinch.
Walker Bueller contract
Buehler’s contract signed with the Red Sox guaranteed $21.05 million in 2025. This includes the $3 million acquisition of $25 million options in 2026.

Walker Buhler had a 5.45 ERA with the Red Sox in 112.1 innings and made a 22 start before being demoted to the bullpen. His 6.7 strikeouts per 9 are the lowest mark of his career, entering the season with 9.5 in eight years with the Dodgers.
