Acclaimed Ukrainian opera singer Vladislav Horay was killed while fulfilling his volunteer mission to the Smee region, where the frontline battle of the territory continues.

Horay is a soloist at Odesa National Opera, and in a statement he is a “world-class tenor” and a “honored artist in Ukraine”, whose voice is known all over the world.

“Tragic news has shaken up the entire arts community in Ukraine,” Opera House said in a Facebook post on Sunday. “(Horrey) was not only a talented performer, but he was an example of the strength, dignity and kindness of life.”

The post didn’t say how Horay died.

According to a June 5 post on Horay’s Facebook, he was raising funds for the Ukrainian Navy forces.

Horay joined the Odesa National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet in 1993, and according to its website he performed in the US, the UK, Canada and many other countries. He also toured the UK and performed at Royal Albert Hall in London.

According to Odesa Opera House, his final performance came one day before he passed away.

“Today, we share this video with you. It’s not just a performance. It’s a farewell. It’s the last concert. It’s the final gift from the singer who lived on the stage and left a part of his soul.”

The Northeast Sami area, where the Opera House said Horay was killed, was a fierce battlefield in the Russian-Ukraine War. Opera said he was on a volunteer mission but did not elaborate.

In recent weeks, Russian forces have made progress in progress towards the regional capital, also known as Sumy.

Acquiring the region’s capital is likely beyond what Moscow is trying to do, but the move underlines the pressure under which Kiev is below, from the northern border to the Black Sea.
