Verizon outage affects customers nationwide, with over 1.5 million reports
Verizon Wireless customers in multiple cities, including New York, Charlotte, Houston and Atlanta, were affected by power outages into Wednesday night.
Verizon has confirmed it will offer a $20 credit to customers affected by a widespread outage of its wireless network in the United States that lasted about seven hours. The outage began at approximately 12:30 PM ET on Wednesday, January 14th, leaving millions of users without service.
According to data from the Downdetector tracker, the outage affected more than 1.5 million customers, with reports concentrated in major cities such as New York, Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, and Brooklyn. For many people, this outage affected their ability to call, message, and access data during work hours.
The company assured that service has already been restored and provided details on how customers can claim credits from their accounts. Here’s what you need to know now.
What happened to Verizon’s network? Why does it matter now?
Verizon’s wireless network suffered a massive seven-hour outage that affected basic communications in multiple states. The volume of reporting reflects the national impact rather than individual issues.
Now is the time, because the company has already confirmed direct coverage and explained the process for earning it. Verizon says that for many users, a credit equates to several days of service.
Who was directly affected by the power outage?
More than 1.5 million customers were affected, with reports peaking in the nation’s major metropolitan areas. Users reported issues with making calls, sending messages, and using mobile data.
Although the scope was broad, not all customers were affected in the same way. Eligibility for the credit is for those who experience service interruptions during the outage.
How do I get a $20 Verizon credit?
In a statement provided to USA TODAY, the company said customers can access the $20 credit directly from the myVerizon mobile app. No need to call customer service.
Verizon will notify you by text message when the credit is ready to be applied to your account. On average, this is equivalent to several days’ worth of service, the company noted.
Has the service been restored yet?
yes. Verizon reported in the following post. × By 10:20 PM ET, the outage was resolved and the network was operational again. The company has not disclosed the cause of the failure.
So far, Verizon has not announced any additional measures beyond the credits provided to affected customers.
