The first shipping deadline of the holiday season is approaching.
Shoppers who want their packages delivered by Christmas Day should note the schedules recommended by FedEx, UPS, and the United States Postal Service.
USPS said in October that it is “prepared to handle the anticipated increase in mail and package volumes during the holidays.” The agency hired 14,000 seasonal employees to help with holiday work.
In a news release, Postmaster General and CEO David Steiner said, “The Postal Service plans to deliver high-volume holiday mail and packages across the country throughout the year and is fully prepared to deliver to Americans.”
Here’s a breakdown of shipping deadlines for the upcoming holiday season:
USPS Holiday Package Deadline
The Postal Service has announced the following recommended shipping deadlines to ensure your holiday packages arrive on time by Christmas Day.
- USPS Ground Advantage Service (2-5 business days): December 17th
- First class postal service (1-5 business days): December 17th
- priority mail service (2-3 business days): December 18th
- Priority Mail Express Service (1-3 days guaranteed): December 20th
Items sent to Alaska and Hawaii must be shipped by the following dates:
- USPS Ground Advantage Service: December 16th
- First Class Postal Service: December 17th
- Preferred mail service: December 18th
- Priority Mail Express Service: December 20th
Delivery dates for FedEx holiday deliveries
FedEx Home delivers daily packages under 150 pounds. FedEx Ground delivers packages under 150 pounds to businesses Monday through Friday.
The company recommends the following dates to ensure your package arrives by December 24th:
- FedEx Courier 5-day delivery: December 17th
- FedEx Courier 4 day shipping: December 18th
- FedEx Courier 3-day shipping: December 19th
- FedEx Courier 2 Day Shipping: December 22nd
- FedEx Courier 1 Day Shipping: December 23rd
- FedEx First Overnight, FedEx Priority Overnight, FedEx Standard Overnight: December 23rd
- FedEx same day: December 24th
- FedEx Grand Economy: December 15th
- FedEx Ground 5 Day Shipping: December 17th
- FedEx Ground 4 Day Shipping: December 18th
- FedEx Ground 3 Day Shipping: December 19th
- FedEx Ground 2 Day Shipping: December 22nd

UPS has announced the next shipping date for packages arriving by December 24th.
