Usha Vance, the nation’s second lady and wife of Vice President J.D. Vance, has spent a year in office with her family and knows the pitfalls and joys of public service.

And on Tuesday, January 20, after months of public speculation about their pending divorce and rumors about why the second lady wasn’t wearing a wedding ring, the Vances announced they would welcome their fourth child in July. “We are so happy to share the news that Usha is pregnant with our fourth child, a boy,” the couple said in a statement. “Usha and the baby are doing well and we look forward to welcoming them.”

The Vances now have two sons, Ewan, 8, Vivec, 5, and Mirabel, 4, and a daughter.

Notably, the two chose to share the news they are looking forward to on President Donald Trump’s second inauguration anniversary. As of last week, there had been speculation about the health of Usha Vance’s marriage after she had not been seen in public for a month.

Mr. Vance is one of a growing bipartisan group of American political spouses, including New York first lady Rama Duwaj and US first lady Melania Trump, who are seeking to influence their cause.

The announcement comes after a flurry of divorce rumors that first surfaced before the pair moved to the Naval Observatory and culminated in November.

Usha Vance caused a stir with her controversial visit to Camp Lejeune with the first lady in late fall.

The second woman was seen talking to troops while out without her wedding ring. Vance has been photographed numerous times with and without his wedding ring, despite rampant online debate.

A spokesperson for the second woman told USA TODAY at the time that Vance “is a mother of three young children, cooks a lot, takes a lot of baths and sometimes forgets her ring.”

The second woman, an experienced civil litigator who met her husband at Yale Law School, has lived a private life that has focused more on motherhood than on her political career. Early last year, she left her quiet, ordinary life as a lawyer at a prestigious Ohio firm. Although she has kept a low profile in Washington, she remains focused on advocacy for military personnel and military families, a common practice among America’s second ladies.

Tuesday seemed to be another reminder that Vance knows when and where he wants to speak and what exactly he wants Americans to know.
