US men’s hockey wears Ralph Lauren for Olympics
The U.S. men’s hockey team just arrived in Milan, Italy, for the 2026 Winter Games. But before the players hit the ice, they made a quick stop at Ralph Lauren to pick up their kits.
MILAN – The U.S. men’s hockey team improved to 2-0 with a win over another underdog opponent in group play.
The U.S. men’s hockey team, made up of 25 NHLers, defeated Denmark 6-3 in Group C in the second qualifying match for the 2026 Winter Olympics on Saturday, February 14 at the Santa Giulia Ice Hockey Arena in Milan.
Denmark took the lead twice in the first period, and the game was down by one point with seconds left in the second period. The Americans, with Jeremy Swayman scoring, outscored the Danes 15-4 in the second period, once again showing their depth against an inferior team, just as they had against Latvia.
The U.S. wrapped up qualifying against Germany on Sunday. Canada has already clinched first place in Group A, while Slovakia has also advanced through Group B to advance to the quarterfinals.
The Danes kept their game plan simple. It’s about doing your best to keep the puck away from their zone and if not, allowing Mats Sogard to see the shot. The Danes have opted to keep top netminder Frederik Andersen for Sunday’s game against Latvia.
Just like in the game against the United States, the Danes were at an overwhelming disadvantage, but got a big boost from Nick Olsen’s goal 1 minute and 40 seconds into the game. Two minutes later Matt Boldy replied on behalf of the American.
The shock of the period was Denmark’s second goal at 11:16, when Nicholas B. Jensen fired a shot near his own bench that somehow slipped to Swayman.
Brady Tkachuk and Jack Eichel scored from a tie midway through the second period to give the Americans a one-point lead. Noah Hanifin scored on a rebound with 2:37 left, and the puck clipped the post on its way to Denmark’s goal, giving the U.S. a 4-2 lead. This was part of a 15-4 shot advantage for the Americans in the second period. But the Dane’s fourth shot was astonishing. After Vincent Trocheck lost the tie, Swayman allowed a slap shot from the blue line with 2.6 seconds left.
Jake Guentzel scored at 7:24 of the third period. Sogard appeared to injure his groin or lower back while making a save and left the game with 8 minutes and 53 seconds to play, handing Denmark’s goal to Frédéric Dichaud. Jack Hughes scored past Denmark’s Jesper Jensen Aabo with 5:33 left in the game, further increasing America’s goal difference.
