WASHINGTON – Republican Rep. Nancy Mace has joined the busy field of GOP primary candidates running to make Governor Henry McMaster successful, launching a campaign for the South Carolina governor race on August 4th.

Mace announced her candidacy in a speech at Citadel, a military college in Charleston, becoming the first woman to graduate from the legion of cadets nearly 26 years ago.

“South Carolina is tired of politicians who smile for the camera, lie to your face and disappear when it’s time to leave. I’m not one of them,” she said in her speech.

She said, “South Carolina needs a governor and if that’s what you need, you need to drag the truth into the sun and flip the table. South Carolina doesn’t need another politician to fold when things get tough.”

Mace, 47, has represented South Carolina’s first legislative district since 2021, covering parts of Charleston. She became the first Republican woman to be elected to Congress from the state. Mace has previously criticized Trump in the Capitol attack on January 6, 2021, but has since become one of his most solid allies.

South Carolina Republican Rep. Ralph Norman, state Attorney General Alan Wilson, Lt. Col. Pamela Evett, and state Sen. Josh Kimbrell also announced their candidacy for governor of South Carolina.
