Apparently, the horrifying knee injury to Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was just as bad as it looked.
The team confirmed Monday night that Hill dislocated the joint after being injured in the 27-21 victory over the New York Jets, the first Miami of the 2025 season. On Tuesday morning, ESPN and the NFL Network also reported that Hill suffered multiple ligament lacerations, including his ACL.
Hill is scheduled to undergo surgery on Tuesday.
The eighth Pro Bowler fell on the heap after being tackled on the sidelines, and soon the Jets trainers were in the trend as Miami medical staff raced over the field. ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” camera shows Hill’s left knee is distorted at an unusual angle as he exhausted the boundary with a hit early in the third quarter. Hill was eventually loaded into a medical cart and, perhaps strangely, to an ambulance before being taken to a local hospital, smiling and laughing as he admitted the crowd with a bright gesture.
The coach and teammates found inspiration in Hill’s post-damage attitude.
“He was probably in the best spirit of any such horrifying experience I’ve ever seen (has),” Miami head coach Mike McDaniel said following the victory. “He immediately had wide eyes and said, ‘I’m fine, make sure everyone gets this victory.’ He was focused on the team. ”
However, his former teammate posted on social media after talking to Hill that his smile was a mechanism to hide his incredible physical pain.
“I just received a FaceTime Call from my brother @cheetah (Hill)” I recently retired from the Terron Armstead tackle posted on X.
“The first thing he said: ‘The man is happy just because we got that victory’ he was fine, and he told me not to faint!!’
Hill’s season now falls to a premature end after another turbulent flow in his volatile career. He was dealing with accusations of domestic abuse from his estranged wife when he returned to the good bounty of his team after resigning them publicly during the regular season finale of the 2024 campaign. He was not voted for the team’s captain this year, and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa said during training camp that Hill is still needed to regain his team’s trust.
Hill was in his middle and appeared to be playing well throughout four games, including six catches for 67 yards before falling over by the Jets. He was also openly cheerful despite Dolphins’ 0-3 start.
“We talked a lot about everything Tyreek has done this offseason, and his connections with his teammates have led the way for the most part, and he harnessed that connectivity to make sure his team is finishing on the far right.”
“He was inspired by such circumstances, and I think his teammates benefited from it.”
How much is Tyreek Hill?
All injuries are unique to those suffering from them, but tears in the ACL are usually a season-ending retreat. The same goes for a dislocated knee, but Hill’s situation seems even more complicated if he actually tore multiple knee ligaments. He was able to take the tough challenge to be ready to play by the first day of 2026.
Tyreek Hill contract
Hill, 31, is in his second year of a three-year, $90 million extension with Miami. But he is on a schedule of making $36 million in 2026, the final season of his agreement, where his base salary surges to $29.9 million. He will be an obvious candidate for restructuring or release during the 2026 offseason given both his injury circumstances and his contractual structure.
