Two National Guard members shot near the White House

Date:

Two National Guardsmen were shot near the White House on Wednesday, November 26, in what officials said was a targeted ambush, with a suspect shot and taken into custody during the attack.

President Donald Trump was in Florida at the time of the attack, and the White House went into lockdown as multiple federal and municipal law enforcement agencies descended on the scene.

National Guard members were on a “high alert patrol” when the suspect came around a corner and “ambushed” them around 2:15 p.m. ET, Metropolitan Police Department Deputy Chief Jeff Carroll said at a news conference.

After the gunfight, the suspect was taken into custody. FBI Director Kash Patel said two wounded soldiers from West Virginia remained in critical condition at local hospitals.
