Israel launches attack on Iran
Israel began a military operation against Iran after not halting uranium enrichment.
President Donald Trump has said that after Israel launches a massive attack on the country’s nuclear site, he will sign a contract with Iran over the country’s nuclear program, saying, “it’s still time.”
“There have already been great deaths and destruction, but there is still time to do this massacre. The next planned attack is even more cruel and is approaching the end,” Trump wrote on social media on June 13th following the attack. “Iran has to make a deal before anything remains.”
The Trump administration has been negotiating with Iran about a nuclear program with the goal of preventing the country from acquiring nuclear bombs. Although Iran claims that its nuclear program is intended for civilian energy purposes only, the International Atomic Energy Agency, the UN’s nuclear watchdog, recently concluded that Iran is very close to the 90% uranium enrichment level required to build nuclear weapons.
“I gave Iran a chance after the chance to sign a contract,” Trump said in his post. “I told them in their strongest words to ‘just do it,’ but no matter how hard they tried, how close they were, they couldn’t get it. ”
The Israeli Defense Forces said more than 200 fighters hit dozens of targets in Iran on June 13 as part of the wave of attack. The IDF said the underground area of Iran’s uranium enrichment facility in a central Iranian district was “damaged” and includes “a multi-story enrichment hall with centrifugal rooms, electrical rooms and additional support infrastructure.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the IDF has struck the ballistic missile programme, an additional target “in the heart” of the Islamic Republic’s programme on nuclear weaponization and enrichment. Netanyahu added that “Iran’s leading nuclear scientist” is also targeted, and that the IDF’s attack will continue for “the few days it needs to be.”
Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei confirmed that some of his country’s senior military commanders and nuclear scientists had been killed in Israeli attacks, and attacked parts of Iran’s capital, Tehran. Khamenei also warned that Israel “prepared for itself a bitter fate.”
Trump met with the National Security Council on June 13th.
Trump said on June 12 that he did not want to attack Iran on Israel while he was actively negotiating an agreement that could prevent the acquisition of nuclear weapons.
“As long as I think there’s an agreement, I don’t want them to come in. Because I think it’s going to blow it. It might actually help it, but it might blow it off too,” Trump told reporters at a White House event.
