LONDON – Scottish police said they are preparing a possible visit to the country by President Donald Trump this month.
Trump owns two golf courses across the country. One is on the northeast coast and the other is south of Glasgow on the west coast.
“While there hasn’t been an official confirmation yet, it is important to prepare in advance for what will be a critical policing operation,” Scottish Police Chief Emma Bond said in a statement on July 9th.
Trump will also be visiting the UK on his second official state visit later this year. The UK has not yet set a date for its trip. The date of Trump’s visit to Scotland has also not been announced.
When Trump visited a golf course in Scotland in 2018, there were protests in the location and some of the largest cities in the country.
Police Scotland said Trump’s three-day visit to the country in July 2018 would cost more than £3 million ($4.08 million). The then head of Scottish police said travel required more than 5,000 police officers.
