  • President Donald Trump said he has “no idea” whether he will win the Nobel Peace Prize.
  • Trump had previously expressed his belief that he would not receive the award despite his foreign policy accomplishments.
  • The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize winners will be announced on October 10th.

Hours before announcing the deal between Israel and Hamas, President Donald Trump reiterated his belief that he would not win the Nobel Peace Prize.

At a roundtable discussion on Antifa on October 8, President Trump was handed a memo from Secretary of State Marco Rubio indicating that a deal was close. President Trump announced on Truth Social that night that Israeli and Hamas leaders had agreed to implement the first phase of a peace agreement aimed at ending the two-year conflict in Gaza.

USA TODAY answered a final question after the memo, asking President Trump if he thought he would win the Nobel Peace Prize.

“I don’t know…Marco would say we’ve solved seven wars, and we’re about to settle an eighth,” Trump said. He frequently claims to have solved six or seven wars. Since taking office in January, he has been involved in five peace agreements or ceasefires, although not all parties involved in these agreements have credited the United States.

President Trump said of the award, “I don’t think anyone in history has ever settled for that much money, but maybe they’ll find a reason not to give me the award.”

Has President Trump been nominated for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize?

The Nobel Committee will not reveal who has been nominated for the prize until 50 years later. Nominations can be submitted by anyone who meets the requirements, including members of national governments. The deadline for consideration for the 2025 award was January 31st.

At least one member of Congress has come forward as having nominated Trump ahead of the 2025 deadline. On December 11, Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (R-New York) announced that she would nominate President Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and former Israeli Defense Minister Job Gallant for the Peace Prize for their work on the Abraham Accords. The Abraham Accords were signed in 2020, establishing normalized diplomatic relations between Israel and Arab countries.

According to the organization, there are 338 candidates for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. Of these, 244 are individuals and 94 are organizations.

Winners will be announced on Friday, October 10th.

Trump has also been nominated for the Nobel Prize several times.

Mr. Trump has long coveted the Nobel Peace Prize, and his friends, including members of Congress, have repeatedly recommended him as a candidate for the award. He ridiculed former President Barack Obama, who won the award in 2009, one year into his first term, saying he didn’t know “what the heck he was getting it for.”

On June 20, Pakistani leaders announced they would nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his “determined diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership in the recent India-Pakistan crisis.” India did not give credit to the United States for the ceasefire.

In a June 24 letter, Republican lawmakers named Trump a supporter of the Iran-Israel ceasefire after the United States joined Israel in bombing Iran.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also said in July that he had nominated Trump for the award. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said he supported Trump’s award at a White House ceremony in August.

In a letter posted on social media in August, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet nominated President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in establishing a ceasefire with Thailand. The nomination was supported by thousands of Cambodian Buddhist monks who took part in a peace march in the immediate aftermath.

In a post on Truth Social on June 20, Trump appeared to complain about not receiving an award for his foreign policy work. “No, nothing I do, including Russia/Ukraine, Israel/Iran, or whatever the consequences, will earn me the Nobel Peace Prize,” Trump wrote. “But people know, and that’s all that matters to me!”
