President Donald Trump said the FBI might help arrest Texas Democrats who fled to other states to block Republicans’ district change plans.
Texas Democrats fled to Illinois, New York, in a standoff rezone
The Texas Democrats have elicited the rage of Gov. Greg Abbott in an attempt to prevent GOP-led districts.
“President Donald Trump may have to arrest Texas Democrats in their homeland after the FBI fled to block plans for Republican districts where more than 50 people could turn the US Capitol upside down.”
“A lot of people are demanding they come back. You can’t just sit there. You have to go back,” Trump said at an August 5 press event.
Trump made his remarks when Sen. John Cornyn, a Republican Texas Sen. John Cornyn, asked about the FBI “takes appropriate measures to take appropriate measures to find or arrest Texas law enforcement.”
Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott ordered the Texas Department of Public Safety to arrest Democrats on August 4th. His order was designed to force lawmakers to exempt lawmakers to comply with civil arrest warrants that National Republican lawmakers voted to issue earlier in the day.
But it was not clear how Texas law enforcement could bring Democrats back to Texas when they were in a state where local law enforcement might not be willing to execute warrants. Many of them went to the Chicago area of Illinois. There, Democrat Governor J.B. Pretzker greeted them. Others went to Boston, Massachusetts and Albany, New York.
“A lot of people are demanding they come back,” Trump said on August 5th.
