The peace vigil, which has been standing near the White House for decades, is the latest target for Donald Trump’s acquisition of Washington, DC, and the president orders its removal and boasts that it “falls very quickly.”

“It was tough,” Trump said on September 8th.

A vigil has been underway at Lafayette Square, across Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House since 1981, but was quickly demolished last weekend after attracting Trump’s attention.

When asked about Vigill’s blue tent by a conservative media member during the White House event on September 5th, Trump turned to his aides in the oval office, saying, “Take it down. Take it down. Today. Now.”

The vigil structure was dismantled over the weekend, as Trump highlighted September 8th and discussed the homeless camp in Washington, D.C. and his push to eliminate combat crime. The efforts included taking control of the DC police and deploying the DC National Guard. Trump is currently threatening to deploy security guards in other left-leaning cities.

Trump said his DC initiative will remove 58 “tent cities” before turning his eyes to a peace vigil, which he described as “Lafayette’s blue tent.” However, no one was accommodated in Vigill’s tent. According to the Washington Post, they protected volunteers from the elements.

A peace vigil volunteer told The Associated Press that the Trump administration inappropriately classifies vigils as a camp to justify the removal.

Trump spent quite a bit of time between his remarks at his Religious Freedom Committee hearing at the Bible Museum in Washington, DC on September 8th, addressing his desire to glorify Washington, DC.

“I’ll fix this place for peanuts,” he said, adding, “We’ll look beautiful in 12 months.”
