Celebrities respond to cancellation of “Late Show with Stephen Colbert”
Hollywood celebrities and journalists respond to the news that “Late Show with Stephen Colbert” has been cancelled.
After questions about the politics behind Stephen Colbert’s late-night exit, President Donald Trump is currently aiming to be fellow host Seth Myers.
Trump went social early on Wednesday, August 27th to address “sick rumors” that marked an extension of Myers’ contract with NBC.
“Fake News NBC has extended the contract for one of the most talented late-night television hosts, Trump wrote. “He has no ratings, talent, intelligence, or unstable child personality. So why is fake News NBC expanding this dope deal?
In May 2024, NBC extended its “Late Night with Seth Meyers” contract until 2028. Mayers, like other late-night hosts, is a frequent critic of the president and his administration.
USA Today contacted NBC for comment.
Why was Stephen Colbert cancelled?
Trump’s comments come after CBS canceled “Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” which is scheduled to end in May 2026. The cancellation urged rage and allegations that the network’s parent company Paramount had fallen under political pressure, given Trump’s criticism and the need to win a merger with Skydance Media, approved by his administrators. However, CBS said the cancellation of the show was a “pure financial decision against the challenging late-night background.”
In a conversation with Dax Shepard about the “Armchair Expert” podcast released on Monday, July 28th, Meyers expressed concern that his show had been cancelled.
“I shifted for fear that I wouldn’t be enough, and now my fear becomes strange outside of my control. At some point, the ecosystem may not support it,” he was recorded in an interview before the cancellation of “Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”
