Tour bus crash in Pembroke New York kills multiples including children
A tour bus back to New York City from Pembroke-covered Niagara Falls in New York, killed several people, including children, police said.
A tour bus in New York crashed on Interstate 90 between Rochester and Buffalo, closing parts of the highway. Injuries and multiple deaths have been reported.
In a Facebook post, New York State Police said all lanes on Interstate 90 near Pembroke, New York, were closed, telling travelers to expect significant delays. According to a report from Spectrum News 1, police said 52 people were on the bus at the time of the crash.
State police on the scene updated the media Friday afternoon to confirm multiple deaths as a result of a rollover involving a child, and several people were locked in. Dozens of people were taken to local hospitals for treatment, according to Rochester Democrat & Chronicle, part of the USA Today Network.
The tour bus chartered from New York City had returned to the city from Niagara Falls when the bus lost control, but after crossing the south shoulder beyond the median value, the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle reported.

“The most traumatic patient we had”: hospital chief says
Dozens of people injured in the collision were transported by helicopters or ground transport to local hospitals for treatment, Rochester Democrats reported.
“I’ve been here for 25 years… This is probably the most traumatic patient we’ve had since the incident in one of my career here in Buffalo,” said Dr. Samuel Cloud, Chief Medical Officer at Erie County Medical Center (ECMC).
ECMC has received 24 patients. The two are now in the trauma ICU and the other two are in the operating room, officials said. The remaining 20 people are actively receiving treatment in the emergency department. Several ECMC doctors also went to the scene to assist in treating patients.
Six people injured in the bus crash on Friday are undergoing treatment at the University of Rochester Medical Center, URMC said in a statement. Two patients are being treated for serious injuries, and four are medically stable, including children.
Officials say Mercy Flight, an organization that provides emergency medical transport, responded to the scene of a bus crash that included eight helicopters and 17 ground-sector EMS units, and transported 19 patients.
Governor, officials answer
New York Governor Kathy Hochul said he was briefed on the crash on Friday afternoon, August 22nd.
“My team coordinates closely with @Nyspolice and local officials who work to provide rescue and support to all involved,” said X Post of Hochul.
Senator Chuck Schumer thanked the first responders in a statement released on August 22nd.
“I am closely monitoring the tragic tour bus accident in western New York. We are in touch with the NTSB and they are heading towards the scene to begin an investigation. We are heartbroken for everyone we have lost and for those who are praying for our families.
