Full-size pickup trucks are America’s most popular vehicle, and competition among manufacturers for their attention is fierce. Despite huge demand, with the recent exit of Nissan and its Titan from the market, there are only five brands competing in the entire market, two of which are from the same company (General Motors). Competing with the big players in this ring is the ultimate challenge, and each must bring something special to the table to have a chance.
5. 2025 Toyota Tundra – MT Score: 8.2/10
The recently refreshed 2025 Toyota Tundra now features a turbocharged V6 that provides even more oomph than the previous V8. The Tundra is available in three trim levels of powertrains, the first two being different tunings of the standard turbo V6, and the third adding an electric motor for extra power. All three models use a 10-speed AT transmission. For commuting and standard housekeeping, the Tundra is a solid choice, especially considering the spacious heated and ventilated rear seats. That being said, other trucks do a better job of towing, hauling, and driving for the price. Most perplexing in our testing were the Tundra’s build quality issues, which are not common in Toyota products.

4. 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 – MT Score: 8.5/10
You’ll need to spring for at least the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500’s LT trim to get the best interior in the truck, but this pickup shares the impressive powertrain lineup of its Sierra sibling. Although it lacks a basic interior, the revised up-trim interior is nice and comes with a ton of technology, including Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play apps. Hands-free Super Cruise (works while towing!) is available on upper trims, as is the Sierra, but the Silverado also has the Sierra’s occasional dynamic jerkiness.

3. 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 – MT Score: 8.5/10
GM’s mechanically twinned Silverado and 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 both offer a wide range of configurations rivaled only by the Ford F-150, including multiple bed lengths and three cab size options. The options menu also features one of the industry’s best powertrain lineups, offering everything from an inexpensive 2.7-liter turbo I-4 with 430 lb-ft of torque to an efficient and rugged 3.0-liter turbodiesel to multiple gas-fed small-block V-8s. In addition to power, the Sierra is easy on the eyes and has some of the best hands-free driving aids on the market, making highway driving a breeze. Super Cruise is a high-tech system, but some of the Sierra’s simpler features are less cohesive, such as the rather nervous suspension. However, the towing capacity is amazing.

2. 2025 Ford F-150 – MT Score: 8.9/10
For the casual observer, it may be hard to tell that the Ford F-150, which was updated last year and will continue through 2025, is no different from its predecessor. This revision brings only minor changes to the exterior, and the interior technology upgrades aren’t exactly game-changing. It may sound like faint praise, but Ford was wise to not make too radical changes to America’s most popular truck. Instead, Ford has reinvested in making the F-150 a truck that anyone can do just about anything. The options are endless. All-electric, supercharged V-8, hybrid turbocharged V-6, or naturally aspirated Coyote V-8 are just a few of the powertrain options available, along with a huge list of options and configurations, all at prices that are on par or slightly lower than the competition. Although the F-150’s interior isn’t as luxurious as the Ram’s, it still offers great comfort and great technology.

1. 2025 Ram 1500 – MT Score: 9/10
Ram stands out from its competitors thanks to its knack for knowing what Americans actually use full-size trucks like the 2025 Ram 1500 for on a daily basis. The Ram is the ultimate cruising truck with plush seating and an extremely comfortable interior, perfect for long distance trips. Already a solid truck, the 1500 has been improved for 2025 with the bold move of eliminating the V-8 engine option. For the regular 1500, this means the Hemi V-8 is gone, as is the off-road-focused TRX model and its supercharged V-8. Will American truck manufacturers abandon V8 engines? You’ll forget all about those big engines once you sample the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine alternative, available in two states. The standard-output version makes 420 horsepower, more than the 5.7-liter V-8 it replaces, and the high-output version that powers the Upper Crust 1500 Limited and the new Tungsten trim level (and effectively replaces the TRX, otherwise identical RHO) radle makes 540 horsepower. All 2025 1500s wear new front-end styling, while all but the Tradesman work truck (and the Warlock, the excellent off-roader it’s based on) have had updated interiors with improved technology. Oh, and did we mention that all these upgrades were enough for the 2025 Ram 1500 to win the MotorTrend Truck of the Year award?
