Tinder is testing the height filter. Sorry, Short Kings.

Date:

The short king is lifting his arms above Tinder’s controversial new features.

Dating apps have begun testing new features that allow people who pay for the app to filter potential matches based on their height – a move that has sparked online debate about the challenges short men face while dating.

“We’ve always listened to what’s most important to Tinder users. Testing paid high preferences is a great example of how to build with urgency, clarity and focus.” “This is part of a broader effort to help people connect with Tinder more intentionally.”

This feature may be new to Tinder, but it is part of other dating apps like Hinge and Bumble, which have long been offering a height filter for paying users.

Dating and relationship experts say dating can be more difficult for short men, especially apps, when it comes to apps where height filters are overlooked from the bat. This certainly can be a disappointment, but it is important not to lose hope. There are still many ways to meet people who are open to dating a short king.

They also add that daters are open-minded. There’s nothing wrong with preferring to date tall people, but it’s important to ask yourself how important certain traits are to you before turning on filters that eliminate potential matches.

“I understand that preferences matter,” says Amy Chan, dating coach and author of “Breakup Bootcamp: The Science of Your Heart.” “The problem is when you confuse preferences with someone who breaks a contract.”

Male dating coach Blaine Anderson says it’s also important for people to keep their height preferences in mind. For example, at 5’4″ people who want to date tall people probably don’t need a height filter set above 6′.

The challenge of dating as a short man

The news that Tinder is testing the height filter has influenced a social media conversation about the ups and downs of dating a man when your height doesn’t start at “6”.

“Women are not ready for this conversation, but they need to stop filtering on the height of the dating app,” wrote one X user. “I met Kyle on the hinge. He didn’t lie about his height (5’9), so he was ruled out by many women! Many of my friends would have filtered him out! Others cracked jokes.

Some people are like Bodybuilder and Fitness Influant’s Jeff Nippard. As a short man, if a woman doesn’t find you attractive because of your height, why do you want to be with her anyway? ”

Chang speculates that height preferences stem from evolution, dating back thousands of years, when body size and strength were required for survival.

But that’s not the case now.

“Men’s height is culturally related to masculinity, strength and protection,” says Chan. “I’m kidding with my friends and unless you’re planning on taking part in the bar fight, someone with access to a good lawyer will probably be able to protect you more than a tall guy.”

The height filter is from a dating app. What should a short man do about it?

Chang encourages people to find ways to meet people outside of dating apps. Ideally, your personality could shine.

“We know through research that apps filter people very strictly, even if they don’t do that in person,” says Chan. “I always tell my clients to have three different forms of ‘lead generation’. If you are using the app, add two more. Maybe it becomes a hobby of joining a club, meeting other like-minded people, and building relationships and communities over time. ”

Anderson offers similar advice, adding that you should not waste your energy by feeling frustrated with things that Dater has no control over. You can’t change your height, but you can work on other attributes to attract your partner.

“Instead of getting angry or irritated, you embrace reality and control what you can control,” she says. “You can control how many women you approach in a day or week. When you get closer to that person, you can control your wonderful smile and lovely personality.”

And if you’re someone using a height filter, you might want to expand it 1-2 inches and see what happens, Anderson says. You may be surprised by the people you meet.
