Timberwolves vs. Warriors game postponed following Minneapolis shootings

Date:

The Minnesota Timberwolves’ game against the Golden State Warriors in Minneapolis on Saturday, January 24, was postponed for several hours after federal agents shot and killed a man in the city.

“This decision was made to prioritize the safety and security of the Minneapolis community,” the Timberwolves said in a statement.

The match was postponed for 24 hours and is now scheduled for Sunday, January 25th at 4:30pm local time.

The game was scheduled to be broadcast nationally by ABC as part of a tripleheader.

Shootings involving federal agents

The person killed Saturday is believed to be a 37-year-old white man, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said. Local news outlets and the Associated Press identified him as Alex Preti.

This is the third shooting by federal agents in Minnesota in January alone.

Another federal agent shot and killed a Venezuelan man during a targeted traffic stop on January 14, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

Protests erupted after an ICE officer shot and killed Renee Nicole Good, 37, in Minneapolis on January 7th. Federal authorities say she was shot in self-defense, but Good’s supporters, including city and state leaders, say her killing was unjust.

Other postponed NBA games

The NBA has also recently postponed other regular season games within the league.

The matchup between the Washington Wizards and Charlotte Hornets has been rescheduled for an earlier time in response to the devastating winter storm that is sweeping the nation.

The regular season game between the Chicago Bulls and the Miami Heat at the United Center in Chicago was postponed to January 8 after moisture on the floor on a rainy day in Chicago made the court unsafe for basketball activities.
