For the Seattle Mariners and Detroit Tigers, it all comes down to this. On Friday, Oct. 10, there will be a winner-take-all Game 5 to conclude this American League Division Series, with both teams looking to break long postseason droughts.
Ace Tariq Skubal will be on the mound for the Tigers against one of the few batting lineups that the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner has struggled with this season. The Mariners won both games Skubal pitched during the regular season and won Game 2 of the series with two home runs off Jorge Polanco. Seattle will counter with starting pitcher George Kirby, but this will be an all-hands-on-deck game with so many risks.
In Game 4, the Tigers rallied in the fifth inning against the Mariners’ bullpen to win 9-3 and preserve their season. This time it was back to T-Mobile Park in Seattle, with both teams splitting Game 1 and Game 2. There will definitely be drama. The Mariners haven’t advanced to the ALCS since 2001, but the Tigers are aiming for a spot in the ALCS for the first time in 12 years.

Mariners pitcher George Kirby has pitched four scoreless innings so far.
Kirby hit Tigers designated hitter Colt Keith with a pitch to the top of his foot, putting him on base. Keith, who attempted to steal second base, appeared to have no problem with his foot.
Kirby pitched next, and catcher Cal Lowry quickly passed the ball to second baseman Jorge Polanco to end the inning.

Skubal quickly attacked the Mariners in the bottom of the third inning, striking out JP Crawford, Randy Arozarena, and Cal Lowry in order.

Josh Naylor hit a double in the second inning, sending a ball thrown by starter Tarik Skubal into the left field seats. After Naylor stole third, Mitch Garber followed up with a sac fly to put Naylor ahead. The Mariners take an early lead against the Tigers.

Mariners legend Ken Griffey Jr. was forced out of the tunnel and onto the field at T-Mobile Park ahead of Friday’s Game 5.
Cal Lowry had the Mariners’ only hit in the bottom of the first inning against Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal.
Skubal struck out the last two batters he faced, getting the Tigers out of the inning.
