North Codra Township, Pa. — Three police officers were fatally shot and two injured while providing warrants before the shooter committed suicide, York County officials said Sept. 17.

Gov. Josh Shapiro went to the scene after the tragedy.

Filming took place in North Codra Township, a rural area of ​​York, Pennsylvania, about 10 miles. Radio dispatcher, York City Mayor Michael Helfrich, and other officials describe the horrifying scene.

“Our minds are directed at everyone involved in the devastating events of North Codra Township,” State Rep. Mike Jones said in a Facebook post. “In the abundant attention and respect for the family, I will not share any details at this time. However, this news is frightening and all your thoughts and prayers are appreciated.”

In a statement, Helfrich said Northern Regional Police Officers and members of the York County Sheriff’s Office were involved.

“The people of York City send our respect and sadness to the Northern Regional Police Officers and York County Sheriff’s families and their agencies that were injured in our fall,” the mayor said. “The York City Police Department is supporting the tragic situation, and York City provides the support we can provide to fellow institutions and families.”

Reporters for York Daily Records, part of the USA Today Network, witnessed officers being loaded into helicopters. A York County radio dispatch shows an officer injured in the North Codra Township incident.

“I’ve been described as to the situation involving York County law enforcement and I’m there right now,” Shapiro said in an X’s statement. “Please follow the directions of local law enforcement agencies for your local people.”

York County Emergency Management Bureau spokesperson Ted Czech said emergency personnel were responding to the scene first reported to York County 911 around 2:10pm local time.

It remains an active scene, the Czech Republic said. There are many police and EMS units on the site. A landing zone is installed for helicopters.

Emergency radio broadcasts indicate that there are reports of deaths in the incident.

York County Coroner Pam Gay said her office was called to respond to the shooting but did not provide any other information.

York Daily records provided photos showing the vehicles of Northern York County Regional Police and York County Sheriffs were on the scene. Some officers were armed with rifles on the farm.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday responded to the incident in a statement from X: “I am heading towards the area and praying for all involved.”

Pennsylvania State Police have not released any information at this time, trooper James Grossie said.
