Condolences poured into family Charlie Kirk leaves behind
The death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk is saddened by his wife, Erica and her children, along with his hometown community in Illinois.
WASHINGTON – On Thursday, September 11, Deputy Director of State Christopher Landau warned that Washington could take action against foreigners “to praise, streamline or make light” the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, adding that he had directed consul officials to take appropriate action.
“In light of the horrifying assassination of a major political figure yesterday, I would like to emphasize that foreigners who praise violence and hatred do not welcome visitors to our country,” Landau said in a post on social media platform X.
“I’m tired of seeing some on social media praise, streamline or reveal the event and have directed consul officials to take appropriate action.”
Landau detailed what such actions mean.
Users responded to Landau’s post with screenshots of their accounts and posts, but it was unclear whether the account they flagged was a US visa holder.
The second at the State Department has since responded to some of those comments, saying it will monitor consuls to monitor post comments that had received more than 2,000 replies as of Thursday afternoon.
A State Department spokesman said he asked about Landau’s post. “This administration does not believe that the United States should grant visas to those whose existence of our country does not match the national security interests of the United States.”
However, the spokesman did not address questions about whether anyone was identified as capable of revoking a visa or how consulate officials would rate what they flagged in response to Landau’s posts.
Kirk, the 31-year-old author, podcast host and ally of President Donald Trump, helped build Republican support among young voters. He was killed in one gunshot on Wednesday, September 10th, after giving a lecture at a university in Utah that President Donald Trump called a “vicious assassination.”
The Trump administration has pursued a radical crackdown on immigrants, including increasing social media vetting, revoking thousands of student visas, and sought to strengthen the duration of others.
