Wen Davis, the actor who starred in “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and “New Amsterdam,” died Monday after being hit by a car in New York, police said. Davis was 60 years old.
The New York City Police Department told USA TODAY that on Monday, Dec. 8, at approximately 8:45 p.m., officers responded to a report of a vehicle collision in which Davis was struck by a vehicle while walking at the intersection of West 53rd Street and Broadway. Further investigation by the New York City Police Department’s Highway District Collision Investigation Unit determined that a black Cadillac driven by a 61-year-old man struck Davis, who was in a crosswalk making a left turn.
Davis suffered “severe head and body trauma” and was taken to nearby Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
Police said the driver who hit the actor remained at the scene unharmed. The NYPD said no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
USA TODAY has reached out to Davis’ representatives for comment.
A working actor with several titles, Davis often plays detectives and police officers, appearing as a police officer in a season 5 episode of Mrs. Maisel and as a police officer in the 2011 film Shame. Other credits include “Girls5Eva,” “Blindspot,” and “American Odyssey.”
