The best and worst moments of the Emmies, including Stephen Colbert

Date:

This is rap, one of the most unpredictable Emmy awards for many years.

After cleaning up past ceremonies, “Bear” and “White Lotus” were almost on the sidelines on Sunday’s TV broadcast (September 14) in favor of hot newcomers “Studio” and “Pitt” and that it was made with statues of the best comedy and best drama of the first season.

Meanwhile, first-time host Nate Bargatze wore viewers at home, pledging to donate $100,000 to his aggravating gimmick: Boys & Girls Club of America, but warns the winners that they will dock their money if their speech runs for more than 45 seconds. It was fun at first, but the countdown clock ultimately took the winner of their joy. And by the time Bargatze announced he and CBS were donating $350,000 at the end of the show, we were tired of the joke hours ago.

Amidst the refreshing changes of the past few years, the TV Academy has largely spread its wealth with its prizes. At just 15 years old, “adolescent” star Owen Cooper became the youngest male Emmy winner in history, with dark horse contenders Britt Lower (“retirement”) and Katherine Lanatha (“Pitt”) winning in the categories of frontrunners Kathy Bates (“Matlock”) and Kerr Kuon (“White Lotts”).

Below are the biggest moments I missed from this year’s Emmy Awards, aired live from the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.

Stephen Colbert gives a patriotic Emmy speech after CBS cancels “The Late Show”

The venerable late-night host has been riding the waves of tide since CBS made the shocking decision in July to cancel his show just days after the network’s parent company Paramount resolved a lawsuit with the Trump administration.

That goodwill was carried to Emmy, where Colbert was greeted with the chant “Stephen!” And a standing ovation when he introduced “studio” star Seth Rogen to the best comedy actor. He received even more intense applause later in the ceremony when “Late Show” won the Emmy Awards Best Talk Series for the first time. Rather than calling CBS or Trump directly, Colbert went high with his speech.

“Sometimes, when you get the feeling that you might lose it, you just really know how much you love something,” he said. Ten years after starting his show, he said, “I have never loved my country more desperately. I will bless God’s blessings. Be strong, brave, and if the elevator is trying to defeat you, be engrossed and punch the higher floor!”

“Hacking” star Hanna Einbinder falls asleep on anti-ice, pro-Palestinian speech

Four seasons later, Einbinder finally won her first support actress, Emmy, playing an impulsive headwriter in Jan Smart’s easy comic in “Hacking.”

“Thank you, amazing,” Ainbinder began. “I was really committed to the personal story of actually keeping losing, it’s actually cool. I was pretty committed to that. But this is cool too. Punk rock!”

Einbinder wrapped her speech with a message to her favorite NFL team, the Philadelphia Eagles. The young star, dressed in the red ceasefire pin, was sleeping for her sharp political statement.

Thank you Tramell Tillman and make history by winning “retirement”

Tillman earned the best support actor in the drama as the first black man in the show’s 77-year history. Tillman, who plays Milchick on the Apple TV+ series, used his speech to pay tribute to his mother, who watched tearfully from the audience.

“My first acting coach was tough, everything, but all great mothers do,” Tillman said in agony. “Mom, when you were no one else, you were there for me, and no one else appeared. Your loving kindness will stay with me, and this is for you.”

surprise! Jeff Hiller defeated Harrison Ford for the best supporting actor in comedy

A critically beloved but rarely seen star of “someone somewhere” by HBO, Hiller defeated a group of star-studded actors in his categories, including Ford (“Shrinkage”), Colman Domingo (“Four Seasons”), Bowen Yang (“Saturday Night Live”) and Evon Moss Backlach (“Bear”).

“I feel like I’m going to cry because for the last 25 years, ‘The world, I want to be an actor!’ and the world was like ‘maybe a computer’,” Hiller joked on stage.

The comedy veteran expressed his gratitude to her husband and hilariously thanked HBO for putting up a show about middle-aged people who sweated in the same network as sexy teens from Euphoria. ”

Reunion of “Gilmore Girls” Leva Mantea pays homage to “Golden Girls”

Alexis Bledell and “Gilmore Girls” mother-daughter duo Lauren Graham reunite in a mock-up of the characters’ homes in Stars Hollow, Connecticut. “Twenty-five years ago, a show called “Gilmore Girls” premiered, and it was clearly fall hostage season,” Graham joked. But despite the series’ fall domination, they confessed that it actually has a very small budget.

“If we had a birthday at the ‘Drew Carry Show’ next door, they sent us the rest of the sheet cake,” Graham said. Bledel agreed: “We looked hungry.” Furthermore, they “saved all year round to have one snow episode.”

Early on the show, Mcentire took to the stage with Little Big Town members Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman sing the theme song for “Golden Girls.” The toe tapping performance was worth it with only the hilarious reaction shots bopping along the seats with celebrity Sarah Paulson, Michael Urier, Janelle James and Colin Farrell Belting.

“Penguin star Christine Milioti wrote a speech on the back of her treatment notes.

The Grammy and Tony winners are one step closer to EGOT status thanks to the Emmy-winning portrayal of villain Sofia Falcone in the “Batman” spinoff series “The Penguin.” The actress was escorted to the stage by her co-star Colin Farrell and was clearly overwhelmed by her victory.

“I wrote this on the back of a memo I took during therapy the other day, so please don’t look behind me,” Milioti said with breath. “It’s very hard to understand that I’m living in this world right now, so I’m deeply grateful for the bright spot.” The DC Comics show “feels so frightening and felt like flying.”

Unsettled by Bargatze’s donation clock, Milioti sprinted through the list of names, threw his head back and screamed.
