A Texas State Trooper stationed near the Kyle Field tunnel has been “relieved” of game-day duty following an incident with Nick Harbaugh and several South Carolina players during the Gamecocks’ Week 12 road game at No. 3 Texas A&M.
The “shoulder collision” incident occurred at Kyle Field near the end of the first half after an 80-yard touchdown pass from Lanoris Sellers to Nick Harbaugh, with South Carolina leading 27-3. After Harber entered the end zone, the Shamcocks wide receiver continued to run into the tunnel, where he grabbed the back of his leg, prompting several teammates to check on Harber. When they returned to the scene, the officer put Haber on his shoulder and yelled at him.
“We are aware of an incident involving a DPS member within the Northeast Tunnel. He has been relieved of duty on game day,” Texas A&M Police Department said on its official X (formerly Twitter) account.
The Texas Department of Public Safety added, “The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is aware of an incident that occurred today during a Texas A&M football game. The DPS trooper involved was sent home from the game. Our Office of Inspector General (OIG) is also aware of this incident and will investigate this matter further. No additional information will be released at this time.”
Here’s how the incident happened between the state troopers and Haber.
Let’s take another look at what happened inside the tunnel.
As of this writing, Harbaugh’s touchdown just before halftime was the last time the Gamecocks scored against the Aggies. The Aggies scored three touchdowns in the third quarter (a 27-yard pass from Marcell Reed to Isaiah Williams, a wide-open 39-yard pass to Ashton Bethel-Roman, and a 14-yard pass to Nate Berkircher), making it a one-score game by the fourth quarter.
Texas A&M then overcame a 30-3 halftime deficit with EJ Smith’s 4-yard rushing touchdown to win 31-30 and remain undefeated on the season.
